Fundraising for Kelowna crane collapse memorial nearing halfway mark

An artist's rendering of the proposed memorial (Photo credit: United Way British Columbia) KELOWNA, B.C. – The North Okanagan Labour Council’s (NOLC) fundraising efforts toward a permanent memorial for five victims from a 2021 crane collapse in Kelowna have passed the $100,000 mark, with more set to be finalized.
Since the project’s announcement in July, a total of $123,100 has been raised of the NOLC’s $300,000 goal, according to the council, with another $100,000 in donations in the process of being finalized.
The majority of donations have come from unions, labour bodies, businesses and crown corporations, according to the NOLC.
The memorial is to commemorate the deaths of Cailen Vilness, Jared Zook, brothers Eric Stemmer and Patrick Stemmer plus Brad Zawislak, who were killed by the collapse in Kelowna’s downtown core on July 12, 2021.
The NOLC said construction documents will be completed in the coming months, with the memorial having a targeted completion of July 12, 2024, the third anniversary of the incident.
